Focus On Today — Privacy Policy
Effective date: OCT 01, 2026
1. Who we are. Focus On Today (the "App") is published by IdleTimeProductions ("ITP", "we", "us"). This policy covers the App and its widget. It explains what information the App handles, where that information goes, and the choices you have.
2. In short. We do not sell your information. We do not show ads or track you across other companies' apps or websites. Your tasks never come to us. We receive information only in three cases: when you register contact details, when the App registers your Mac for notifications, and when you choose to send usage data.
3. Your tasks. Your tasks, subtasks, notes, colors, due dates, reminders and window layouts are stored on your Mac. If you are signed in to iCloud, they sync between your Macs through your private iCloud database. Apple runs that database under its iCloud terms, and only your Apple Account can read it. We cannot see, read or recover it.
4. Your settings. Your App settings are stored on your Mac and synced between your Macs through iCloud key-value storage tied to your Apple Account. We cannot access them.
5. Import, export and backups. When you export tasks, back up or restore, the App reads and writes only the files and folders you choose. Automatic backups are saved to the folder you pick. None of these files are sent to us.
6. Widget and reminders. The widget reads a summary of your progress that the App keeps on your Mac, in a storage area shared only between the App and its widget. Reminders are scheduled on your Mac through Apple's notification system.
7. Contact information and notification registration. The App stores one registration record per Mac in the App's iCloud public database, which Apple runs. The record contains:
(a) a random identifier the App creates for your Mac; it is not your hardware serial number or advertising identifier;
(b) the push-notification token Apple gives your Mac;
(c) the App's version;
(d) if you fill them in under Settings ▸ Account ▸ Contact Information, your first name, last name, username and email address.
The record is created automatically, without contact details, the first time the App receives a notification token. Your contact details are added only when you choose Save Changes. The record can be read by your own Apple Account and by our notification server. Other users of the App cannot read it. We use it to send notifications to your Mac. If you have chosen "Send Usage Data" (paragraph 8), we also use it for help content, communications and offers.
8. Usage data. Settings ▸ Data & Privacy offers three choices. Do Not Send Usage Data is the default.
(a) Do Not Send Usage Data: nothing described in this paragraph is collected.
(b) Send Anonymous Usage Data: the App sends Google Firebase Analytics the following:
• counts of actions, such as tasks created, completed, deleted, moved or torn off, and app launches;
• which views you open (Calendar, Kanban, Eisenhower Matrix, Dashboard);
• your in-app purchases (product, price and currency).
Firebase also automatically collects technical details such as an app-instance identifier, Mac model, macOS and App version, language, and an approximate location (country or region) worked out from your IP address. This data is used to understand how the App is used and to improve it.
(c) Send Usage Data: the same as (b). The App also attaches the identifier from paragraph 7(a) as a Firebase user ID. This lets us connect your usage data to your registration record and contact details. That connection is made on our side. Your name and email are never sent to Google.
(d) What is never sent: task titles, notes, or any other task content. The App does not use Apple's advertising identifier. It tells Firebase that ad storage and ad personalization are denied.
(e) Google processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
9. Usage statistics on your Mac. The App keeps running totals of the actions in paragraph 8(b) on your Mac, and you can view and reset them in Usage Stats. If you choose to send usage data and also enter a server address of your own, the App periodically sends those totals to that server with the identifier from paragraph 7(a) and the App version. We do not run or receive data from that server.
10. Artificial-intelligence features.
(a) Apple Intelligence. Features such as natural-language task entry, goal breakdown and the Dashboard summary can run on Apple Intelligence. When they do, your text and tasks stay on your Mac.
(b) Claude (optional). You can instead choose Anthropic's Claude in Settings ▸ A.I. and enter your own Anthropic API key. The key is stored in your macOS Keychain. When you use an AI feature with Claude selected, the text you type and the tasks it involves are sent directly from your Mac to Anthropic. The App asks you to agree before the first time this happens. That data is handled under your agreement with Anthropic and Anthropic's privacy policy. It is not sent to us, and we cannot access it.
11. Automation. Shortcuts and Siri, AppleScript, the command-line tool, and the App's local MCP server all run on your Mac and act only when you or a program you set up calls them. If you connect an AI app such as Claude Desktop to the App's MCP server, that app can read and change your tasks. What it does with them is governed by that app's own privacy policy.
12. Task event scripts. If you install scripts that run when tasks change, those scripts run on your Mac with the task details the App passes them. What a script does with that information is up to the script you install.
13. Diagnostic tools. Settings ▸ Data & Privacy includes Logging, Capture Notifications and Hardware. Logging writes a diagnostic log on your Mac. Capture Notifications reads the Mac's system log through a helper script you install, to report on the App's own notifications. Hardware shows details about your Mac, which can include its serial number. All of these stay on your Mac. Nothing is sent unless you choose to share it with us.
14. Purchases and the free trial. Apple processes all purchases. We never receive your payment details. The App reads Apple-signed records of your purchases and of when you first got the App, to unlock features and to work out your 30-day trial. If you have chosen to send usage data, a record of each purchase is also sent to Firebase as described in paragraph 8.
15. Who we share information with. We share information only with:
(a) Apple, which provides iCloud, CloudKit, push notifications and the App Store;
(b) Google, for Firebase Analytics, and only if you choose to send usage data;
(c) Anthropic, only when you choose Claude with your own key;
(d) anyone we are legally required to share it with: authorities when the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
16. How long we keep information. We keep your registration record (paragraph 7) until you ask us to delete it, or until we stop running the notification service. Usage data is kept as stated in paragraph 8(e). Your tasks and settings stay in your iCloud account until you delete them.
17. Your choices and rights. You can:
(a) change or turn off usage data at any time in Settings ▸ Data & Privacy;
(b) change your contact details in Settings ▸ Account;
(c) turn off Claude, or remove your API key, in Settings ▸ A.I.;
(d) turn off the App's notifications in System Settings ▸ Notifications;
(e) ask us to access, correct or delete your registration record and any usage data connected to it by contacting us (paragraph 21).
Depending on where you live, for example the EU, UK or California, you may have further rights, including the right to object, to data portability, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
18. Children. The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
19. Security. Your tasks are protected by Apple's iCloud security. Registration records can be read only by their owner and by our notification server. API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.
20. International transfers. Apple, Google and Anthropic may process information in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires it, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
21. Contact us. IdleTimeProductions FocusOnTodaySupport@IdleTimeProductions.com.
22. Changes to this policy. We will post any change on this page and update the effective date. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we will tell you in the App before it takes effect.
