Focus On Today
Requires macOS v15.1+

Today’s list, one click away in your menu bar.

Focus On Today keeps your tasks in the Mac menu bar. Drag any task onto the desktop and it becomes its own small window that floats above your work until it’s done.

The whole app

Everything else it does

The demo covers the core. The app’s README lists 50 features, including reminders, sync, backups and automation. Here they are by area.

Capture 4

  • The number of tasks due today shows in the menu bar and as a Dock badge
  • File ▸ New Task (⌘N) starts a task from anywhere
  • A focus shortcut jumps straight to the new-task field
  • Apple Intelligence reads tasks typed in plain language and breaks a goal into steps (macOS 26)

Organize 6

  • Subtasks nest to any depth, each with the same powers as a task
  • Color tags from a palette you edit, shown as ordered dots
  • Priority flags that color the checkbox
  • Custom star ratings you can filter by
  • A filter bar for done state, stars and due date, remembered per window
  • Keyboard navigation and a font picker that scales every control

Windows 5

  • Tear any task or subtask off into a floating window
  • Pin a window on top; new windows inherit the look of their parent
  • Per-window background, text color and transparency
  • Move whole selections between windows along the orange drop line
  • Named window layouts, with the last one restored at launch

Plan 5

  • Calendar window: drop a task on a day to set its date
  • Kanban board with named, colored, reorderable columns
  • Eisenhower Matrix that sorts tasks by urgent and important
  • A calendar-and-clock picker for due dates
  • Reminders ahead of the due date, with default sets for new tasks

Track 3

  • Progress rings for today, this week, this month and this year
  • A desktop Progress widget for Today and Week
  • Finished tasks remember when they were completed

Keep safe 5

  • iCloud sync across your Macs, switchable without a restart
  • Scheduled backups, backups on quit, and a limit on how many to keep
  • Restores from newer app versions are blocked to protect your data
  • Import and export of tasks, and File ▸ Share to other apps
  • Usage-data sharing is off unless you turn it on

Automation

Script it from anywhere

Every task operation is open to Shortcuts, Siri, the Terminal and AppleScript. Reading is free. Making changes needs the Automation purchase.
